Whether the database is fine and just needs explaining, you need to know how to fix or extend it yourself, or you want to build a new one from scratch, our training is built around exactly that. And we’ll tell you honestly what will help most.
The usual suspect
We blame Bob.
Every organisation has a Bob. Bob built the database. Bob understood the database. Bob documented it in a way that made perfect sense to Bob, which is to say, not really at all.
Bob has since retired. Or moved on. Or is theoretically still available but somehow never quite is when you need him. And now the database is yours, officially or unofficially, and you’re responsible for something you didn’t build, don’t fully understand, and are slightly afraid to touch.

This is not an unusual situation. It’s one of the most common calls we get. And it’s always fixable, once someone who actually understands Access has had a proper look.
An honest assessment
There are usually three possibilities.
We won’t know which one applies to you until we’ve had a look. But here’s what we typically find, and what we typically recommend.

Bob’s database is basically fine.
It just needs a bit of love. A tidied report, a new form, some basic maintenance, someone to finally sort out TEMP2. We can do that work ourselves, or teach whoever inherited it to do it.

The database is fine, but you need confidence.
Enough knowledge to keep it running, make small changes without fear, and stop feeling one wrong click from disaster. That’s a training conversation, usually one-to-one or a very small group.

Honestly, it’s a bit of a disaster.
And the kindest thing is to say so, and rebuild it properly. We’ll tell you that too, before anyone commits to anything, and without pushing you toward a rebuild if it isn’t genuinely needed. When it is, we’ll explain why in plain English.

The point is: we don’t know which of these applies until we’ve had a look. That’s what the first conversation is for, and it won’t cost you anything.
The training itself
Access training tailored to your needs.
If what you need is training in Microsoft Access, that’s our bread and butter. One-to-one or small group, focused entirely on the database you’re actually working with, not a generic Access syllabus that may or may not be relevant.
We work through your database, your forms, your reports. By the end you’ll understand what you’ve got, how to maintain it, and how to make the changes you need to make without worrying about breaking something.
Need a new database?
If you’re building a new database rather than wrestling with an inherited one, we can teach you to design and build it properly from the ground up, tables, relationships, forms and reports, so you end up with something solid, and nobody inherits a Bob situation from you a few years down the line.
And if it turns out that what you actually need is development work rather than training, or a mixture of both, we’ll tell you that in the first conversation.

One-to-one or small group, typically two or three people at most.

On-site at your premises or remotely, whichever works better.

Depends entirely on what you need, we’ll discuss it in the first conversation.

Built around your database, or the one you’re building, not a standard syllabus.

Around £800 per day. Fixed, even if you bring a couple of colleagues to the course with you.
